The best play I have seen so far in 2009 is waiting for godot at the theatre royal, newcastle with sir ian mckellen. inspirational!!!
  • Chris
The best play I've seen this year was August: Osage County. Extraordinary ensemble acting, great dinner table scene. The longer it went on, the crazier it went on. Like a soap opera on speed.
  • great idea to generate some buzz - hoping i win!
  • Maxine
I would say Osage County but since someone beat me to it I'll go for Over There at the Royal Court. In one sense, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (when else are you going to see a play commemorating 20 years since the fall of the Berlin wall?). As an allegorical piece it was effective and impressive - and, contrary to some detractors who question Mark Ravenhill's credentials re the subject matter - my East German mother very much enjoyed it too.

Best play this year has been August:Osage County. Why? Amazing ensemble acting, especially Amy Morton and Deana Dunagan.
  • WestEndWonder
difficult to tie it down to just one show, ive seen a lot of good stuff lately...mmmm...War Horse @NT, Kafka's Monkey @ YoungVic, Stove Pipe @ the Bush and more. Why do I like these plays? Each one had something in it that made me double--think. Hope I win the tickets :)
  • Thanks for the opportunity. The best play I've seen so far this year is without doubt Complicite's Shun Kin at the Barbican. The intricate story layers and the incredible attention to detail plus the trademark Complicite playfulness with objects had me mesmerized throughout.
