Yang-May Ooi interviews ‘Walter Plinge’

A valuable glimpse of “the old days” as per the experience of ‘Walter Plinge’, the RADA graduate who began his career in the mid 50’s at the Derby Playhouse.

A couple of months back, I got an email from Yang-May Ooi, novelist and east/west culture blogger over at Fusion View, about the prospect of her interviewing ‘Walter Plinge’, a retired English Rep actor.

I was immediately drawn to the idea and thought it would be particularly interesting to hear his thoughts on the mid-1950’s and the emergence of the so-called ‘Kitchen sink drama’ and the ‘angry‘ new breed of theatre.

My thanks to Yang-May for persuing the idea and making it happen, because what has transpired is a fascinating and very valuable glimpse of “the old days” as per the experience of ‘Walter Plinge’, the RADA graduate who began his career in the mid 50’s at the Derby Playhouse.

Listen to the interview here.

  • As an actor for most of my life —and mostly in small companies throughout Canada — I was immediately connected to Mr. "Plinge" through shared experience and theatre tradition. What an engaging and enlightening listen.

This interview is an absolute delight: thank you so much!
